Spreading the "Nussle-Hates-College-Students" Message

Drake Democrats members took to the intersection of Ingersol and MLK Blvd today with numerous signs protesting Jim Nussle's attacks on our education. It turned out to be quite the glorious victory, with surprisingly no accidents as drivers slowed down to read our signs, with our hands nearly freezing, and with us finding that Ingersol and MLK is perhaps the most dangerous street to cross in Des Moines. Among the highlights were: the van of high schoolers on their way to the state wrestling tournament that screamed several anti-Nussle slogans we can't quite put on signs; the crazy homeless guy that agreed that all politicians are evil; and the guy in the Lexus SUV that yelled at us to get jobs.

The actual responses from people were positive by about a 4-1 margin. Though I think most people were unsure of who Jim Nussle is - which just helps out even more, because their first association of his name will be with making college less affordable.

All in all, a successful and just really fun event.

Hmmm... 2 weeks of planning and you could only get 6 people (yes --- I saw you...). the vast organization seems to be coming together. just glad that the positive democratic message of "hate" that did so well in 2004 is still around. Jesus --- when in the world are we ever going to figure it out?? can't we offer a fricking plan instead of just saying "you bad --- me good"?? No wonder we're keep getting our asses kicked. You looked like idiots out there.

The visibility was fun today. It doesn't take a huge crowd to make a difference. I am glad the dedicated memebers we have could take some time away from there schedules and jobs to hit the streets. Students are not going to roll over on this issue. Budget priorities are important and 60 Billion dollars towards tax cuts is not the right move at this time. I can't wait till another Democratic win in November for the Gov's office and in the fighting 3rd district. Doug Gross, I mean Jim Nussle, and Stan "Hit a Homerun" Thompson, I mean Lamberti, will go down in defeat.

Ah, how we love comments. Well, for one, Mr. Devries, the title of the post is just a joke; we don't really believe Nussle hates anyone, we just think he's not very concerned about our futures.
Secondly, we were fine with just 6 people today - it obviously got your attention and many others' so I'd say we did a pretty good job. We'll have more at future events, but even just small ones like this one are highly useful.
And thirdly, it's interesting that you refer to "getting our asses kicked," making it sound as if you're a fellow Democrat. However, a quick Google search shows that you've contributed quite a bit to Jim Nussle and Stan Thompson. Of course then maybe you do relate to us, since Thompson got his ass kicked by Boswell last time.
Look buddy, I'm sure you're a great guy and we've got nothing personal against these politicans. So calm down and get back to your $9.5 million hotel contract deals. Thanks for the comment

Looks like we've got our first troll here. That's pretty great.

I'm volunteering to work for the Jim Nussle campaign. It appears to me that the Democratic party is made up of a lot of small, fringe, special interest groups. When unable to get votes because people believe in your candidate, the liberal plan is to round up fringe groups with a personal need and indoctrinate them to your cause. I would recommend approaching your endeavor with a little more intelligence. I wish I had a nickel for each time a person replied with "it was just a joke" when getting dressed-down for shoddy lanquage, hate speech or behavior. Nice backpeddling.
